You might wonder, what is a Doula, or why should I have a doula at my birth? Whether you're planning a simple, private birth, or a well attended birth, a doula can be a great choice! I had the opportunity to have Briana Shires attend both of my so far two births, and I have to admit, I loved having her there each time!!! I am not a person to have every relative and close friend in the room during labor. Just me and my hubby, and the midwife. But having a doula is another added support that no-one should take for granted. We planned a quiet birth, with just the CNM and necessary staff involved. But having Briana as well was a blessing indeed! Briana was a great support, and a calm presence in the room, constantly encouraging me that I could do this, that soon I'd have my precious baby in my arms. She is trained in massage therapy and was a real help to me with massaging my back and keeping me relaxed so my body could do it's job. By far though, the thing I appreciated most about Briana and the support she offers is that she is a giver by nature. She gives of herself and her time to ensure that I have the help and support I need. She takes of herself, and gives to others so that they may better achieve in labor and delivery what they have in mind as the ideal birth. You don’t have to think twice…you’ll never regret having Briana as your birth doula!
